Kruja is roughly 32km north-east of Tirana, with the historic city offering an above sea level panorami view as it is 608 meters above sea level.
During the 15th century, in his twenty-five years of activity, Albanian national hero Skanderbeg held fast in Kruja and pushed back the Ottoman forces with uncompromising resistance. The Gjergi Kastrioti Skanderbeg Museum is housed inside the castle and dates to the 5th and 6th centuries A.D.
Before arriving to the castle’s entrance there is a traditions ‘bazar’, or market, which is a must for any tourist. You will find traditional handmade textiles, woodcraft, silver, copper, antiques, etc. The market itself dates back to the period of Skanderbeg and is a main tourist attraction.
