Monday June 10th we left Shkodra for our first Albanian vacation!! We headed out about 7:30 am and made our first pit stop for Coffee outside of Durres.
Here’s hubby Vince enjoying his break from driving. We got back on the road and really started to make headway. The traffic was light and the roads are very well maintained and updated. We arrived at Llogora just in time for lunch, about 1:30 and stopped at a recommended restaurant, Panorama. Let me tell you, if you ever make the same trip this is a MUST stop, not only was the food delicious and reasonably priced, but the view was priceless!! After lunch we started back on our journey. Next town we drove through was Dhermi, this too as lovely although we didn’t have a chance to stop. Followed by Vlore. This was a charming place and I did manage to take some photos as we were driving through.
We reached our destination at around 5:00 pm. I had booked the Apartment Globus in Saranda. This is a lovely apartment building, with four stories, and privately owned. It’s about 5 minutes outside of the center of Saranda, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The unit we rented had a lovely balcony overlooking the sea and the island of Corfu. The owners, Dimitri and Laura are very gracious and obliging, the apartments are tastefully done and very clean. I highly recommend it.
Our first night was quiet as we were a bit tired, and so were our poochies, Mimi and Toby, so we just walked down to the market, picked up a bottle of wine, cheese and salame and had a lovely dinner on the balcony overlooking the sunset! Stay tuned for the rest of our trip….
